Lindsay Passenger: George Frederic Lindsay George Frederic Lindsay, youngest son of James and Elizabeth {Williams} Lindsay was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1854 and emigrated at the age of 29 years in the hope that his health would improve in a warmer climate, after bouts of rheumatic fever. George worked as an assistant in the Wholesale and Retail Drapery Establishment of Pim Brothers in South Great Georges Street, Dublin for 11 years prior to emigration. He sailed from London on the 25th August 1882, having left Dublin earlier in that month. George Lindsay settled at Port Albert in the South Gippsland district of the State of Victoria where the Alberton Shire and Postal Records first mention him on the 31st December 1884. Subsequent records show George F Lindsay as a Draper in the Gippsland townships of Port Albert, Foster, Toora and Yarram and in later years he was the Publican at Port Albert in addition to Farming. The Lindsay home was on the Port Albert - Tarraville road and it still stands today although sold out of the family on the death of James C Lindsay, eldest son of George F Lindsay in 1957. In 1886 George Frederic Lindsay married Mary Elizabeth Linforth, daughter of Thomas & Sarah { Wood } Linforth. Mary Elizabeth was born in Hull, Yorkshire, England, in 1857 & emigrated with her mother, younger brother and infant sister on the "Great Victoria" which left Liverpool. England on the 10th September 1864 via Cork, Ireland, arriving in Melbourne on the 29th November of that year. George Frederic Lindsay died at Port Albert on the 18th March 1905 after a four month illness with Hepatitis, leaving a family of 3 sons and 3 daughters. Mary Elizabeth Lindsay died in Melbourne on the 7th August 1934 and she is buried with her husband in the Church of England section of the Alberton Cemetery in South Gippsland. Robert Charles William Alexander Lindsay was born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, in 1843, the youngest son of Alexander and Jane [Little] Lindsay. He studied medicine at Belfast University and obtained his M.D. at the University of Glasgow. In 1864 Dr. Robert Lindsay emigrated to Australia as the Resident Medical Officer on the Black Ball liner "Red Rose" which carried 176 passengers in Steerage and 2 in Saloon Cabins, one of whom was Dr. Lindsay. Dr. Robert Charles Lindsay was later described by his son Sir Daryl Lindsay as " short, with a stocky build and dark bushy whiskers, a great talker with a roguish wit and a man who should have been born with a comfortable private income, who accepted life as it came and felt the small worries of the day had no meaning for him." Dr. Lindsay set up practice in the Victorian town of Creswick where on the 18th May 1869 he married 19 year old Jane Williams, the daughter of Rev. Thomas Williams who had been a missionary in Fiji. During the next 20 years at Creswick Dr. Robert and Jane Lindsay brought up 10 children, the majority of whom became world famous artists, the most famous being sons Sir Lionel, Sir Daryl, Norman and Percy Lindsay and daughter Ruby. Dr. Robert Charles Lindsay died on the 19th September 1915 and his wife Jane Williams Lindsay died in November 1932, and both are buried in Creswick cemetery. in 1827. After emigrating to Sydney
Alexander Lindsay married Eveline Henrietta Clarke of Sydney ( 1848-1921) and
they had 4 children; Edward Stanley Alexander (1879-1954), Isabel Eveline
Mary (b.1880), Ethel Constance Jane (1882-1961), & Adelaide Marion Estelle
[b/1885], who were all born in Sydney. Alexander Lindsay was in the textile trade in Ireland and Australia after
