The origin of their common ancestor, Robert Lindsay (ca 1740-1801) has not yet been proven but there are several possibilities that are evolving. One of these possibilities evolves from the fact that the DNA results have proven a mutual descent of the Guilford County, NC Lindsays with the DNA Group 1 participants who claim descent from Thomas Lindsay of Kingswark. This possibility is further supported by the circumstantial evidence that suggest that the Guilford County, NC Lindsays are descended from one of the Virginia Lindsay lineages who are believed to be descended from Capt. Bernard Lindsay (1603-ca 1646, descendant of Thomas Lindsay of Kingswark) who married Rachel Lindsay (1612-1645, daughter of Sir Jerome Lindsay of Annatland). Based on the facts and the circumstantial evidence, the most likely common ancestor for the Guilford County, NC Lindsays and the Lindesays of Loughry (County Tyrone, Northern Ireland) is Thomas Lindsay of Kingswark (b. ?, d. ca July 1607 Leith, Scotland).
