General Robert Edward Lee

The papers of the Southern Historical Society revealed in 1881 that the ancestry of General Robert E. Lee, of the Army of the Confederate States of America, had been traced back seventeen generations to Robert Bruce, King of Scotland (1274-1329).  Within those maternal links are seven generations of Lindsay ancestors.
