Mount Lindsey - Colorado, USA

Mount Lindsey is located in the state of Colorado at an elevation of 14,042 feet.  It is to be found to the North/Northeast of Blanca Peak (14,345 ft), both of which are a part of the Blanca massif.  Mount Blanca or the Blanca massif is located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Phil Lindsey of Illinois plindsey@interaccess.com provided Lindsay International with the following information on Mount Lindsey in Colorado.  Phil has a book entitled "A Climbing Guide to Colorado's Fourteeners", authored by Walter R. Borneman and Lyndon J. Lampert, published in 1994 that provides additional insight on Mount Lindsey.  The Mount Lindsey section is covered on pages 184-189.  From approximately 1875 to 1953 this mountain was known as "Old Baldy".  In 1953 it was renamed in memory of Malcolm Lindsey (1880-1951).  According to this book, Malcolm Lindsey was a member of the Colorado State Bar, the Episcopal Church and the Sons of the American Revolution.  This book does not mentioned Malcolm's Lindsey lineage.  Our thanks to Phil Lindsey for this bit of information on one of the many Lindsay places.

Robert Critchfield critch@centurytel.net of Colorado, who daily views Mount Lindsey from his kitchen window, provided Lindsay International with the majestic photo below that he recently took of Mount Lindsey.  As stated by Mr. Critchfield, the photo was taken about mid-day on August 7, 2004.  It was an overcast day, which was good for climbing but not necessarily for landscape photography.  This photo of Mount Lindsey was taken from the north ridge of Blanca Peak (elev. 14,345 ft) at an elevation somewhat above the summit of Mount Lindsey.  As the photo was taken, the sun was trying to break through the clouds and Mount Lindsey was partially bathed in weak sunlight.  A prominent feature in the center foreground of the photo is Gash Ridge, which leads to the saddle connecting two of the peaks found in the Blanca massif.  Also seen in the lower right foreground are the Winchell Lakes.  Our thanks to Mr. Robert Critchfield for sharing this rare and beautiful photo of Mount Lindsey with us.

Anyone with additional information that you would like to share regarding this Lindsay place or additional details on the lineage of Malcolm Lindsey, can communicate with me at ronlindsay@comcast.net .
