"The List" below, of Lindsay (how ever spelled) genealogical researchers, is open to those of both the amateur and professional ranks.  These individuals have volunteered their names and the particular Lindsay family lineage they are researching to be posted on this page.

  1. Katie Angermeyer, E-Mail Katie , amateur genealogist researching Moses Lindsey b. circa 1760 Virginia, d. circa 1810 Washington County, VA.

  2. Deborah Austin, E-Mail Deborah , amateur genealogist, researching her 5th great grandfather James Lindsey b abt 1770 North Carolina m. Mary McMann.

Carla Lindsay Barber, E-Mail Carla, amateur genealogist researching John Lindsay, b. 17 Jan. 1771, d. 29 Aug. 1839 in Liverpool, Perry County, Pennsylvania. Married Sarah ? b. 2 April 1775 and d. 14 Dec. 1843.  Three known children were my ggg grandfather, John Christie Lindsay, b. 31 May 1803, d. 25 Aug. 1864 in Liverpool, Pa., William Lindsay born about 1808 in Pennsylvania, Isabella Ann Lindsay O'Neil, b. 28 Feb. 1812, d. 2 June 1884.  This Lindsay lineage has been DNA tested and proven a part of DNA Group 15.

  4. Barbara A. Barooshian, E-Mail Barbara , amateur genealogist researching Thomas Lindsey b. 1723 Scotland, d. (by drowning) 1787 Bridgewater, Massachusetts, married Elizabeth Turner, daughter of William & Eleanor (Whitman) Turner.  The parents of Thomas Lindsey were to sail from Londonderry, Northern Ireland to America abt. 1700's.  In Londonderry, Thomas's  father joined some friends in a steeple chase, fell off his horse and died; the widow brought her 9 children to America, 3 of whom settled in New England.

  5. Josephine Lindsay Bass, E-Mail Josie , amateur genealogist researching William H. Lindsay b. circa 1780, d. ?.  William H. Lindsay married Polly Alvis in 1802 at Tinkling Springs Presbyterian Church, Staunton, Virginia, and are the presumed parents of Zachariah Lindsay 1814-1892 of Lawrence and Limestone Cos. Alabama.  The web site for viewing additional information is http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mysouthernfamily/This Lindsay lineage has been DNA tested and proven a part of DNA Group 5.

  6. Alan Lindsay Berry, E-Mail Alan , amateur genealogist researching John Lindsay b. 1795, Scotland, d. 1885 Rockfish, Cumberland County, North Carolina.  John Lindsay was the son of John Lindsay (the elder) and Mary Shaw of Isle of Jura, Scotland.  John Lindsay migrated from Scotland to North Carolina in 1838 with his wife Mary Black and three children.  Two of their children were born in Scotland, another on the voyage to America and four in North Carolina.  John & Mary Black Lindsay settled in Rockfish, North Carolina.  The geography of Rockfish, NC was first located in Cumberland County, North Carolina, then in 1912 Rockfish became a part of Hoke County, NC.  The family is referred to as the Galatia Lindsays which references the Galatia Presbyterian Church in Rockfish, NC where they were members and the place of their burial.  This Lindsay lineage has been DNA tested and proven a part of DNA Group 7.

  7. Gregg Lindsay Bilyeu, E-Mail Gregg , amateur genealogist researching John Lindsay b. circa 1808 County Atrim, Northern Ireland, d. 1890 Canada and is buried in Opinicon Cemetery.  Immigrated to Upper Canada in 1824 and was married to Margaret Ballantyne (1819 – 1909).  John and Margaret were the parents of 8 children; Samuel, Martha, Robert, Thomas, Annie, Mary, Margaret and Joseph. It is believe that John Lindsay’s (ca 1808 – 1890) parents were Samuel Lindsay and Ester Hughes.

  8. Jack Blair, E-Mail Jack , genealogist, with credentials, researching Master John Lindsay of Blairyfeddon (notary public), b. ca 1495 Dowhill?, Cleish, Kinross, Scotland, d. ca 1546 Angus, Scotland.  The known migration path for John Lindsay was Kinross to Perth to Angus, Scotland.

  9. Diana Bradley, E-Mail Diana , amateur genealogist researching Joshua Lindsay b.1737 or 1743, Caroline County, VA , d. Feb. 1813, Rockingham County, NC, m. Mildred Vernon, Rockingham County, NC in 1781.

  10. Ronald Brennan, E-Mail Ronald , amateur genealogist researching John Lindsay b. ?, d. before Sept. 1778 Charlotte County, Virginia.

  11. Vicki Lindsey Bright, E-Mail Vicki , amateur genealogist, researching Carlton Alexander Lindsey Sr., b. 1820 Kentucky, d. ?, m. ?.   The father of Carlton Alexander Lindsey Sr. is believed to be Starling/Sterling Lindsey.  Carlton Alexander Lindsey Sr. eventually moved to Mississippi.

  12. Vivian Toole Cates, E-Mail Vivian , amateur genealogist researching Jeremiah Lindsey b. circa, 1735-40 St. Paul's Parish, Hanover County, Virginia, d.1800 Greene County, Georgia.  A 1710 Land Patent in New Kent County, Virginia identifies a Joseph Lindsey (b. circa 1670) as father of a Jeremiah Lindsey.  Thus there were probably at least two generations of Jeremiah Lindseys in Hanover which was taken from New Kent County, VA in 1720.  A Joseph Lindsey and a William Lindsey were on the 1704 quit rent roll for New Kent County, VA.

  13. Karen Cloud, E-Mail Karen , amateur genealogist researching gggg grandmother Hannah Lindsay born 1815 NY died December 23 1880 Brooklyn NY.  Married William St. John circa 1844; had at least five known children:  Ann M., William Jr.,  Josephine, Angeline and Sarah Frances.  First three died in childhood and are buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn.  Hannah's parents were born in New Jersey.

  14. Floyd A. Colbert, E-Mail Floyd , amateur genealogist researching William Lindsay b. 1738 Franklin County, Pennsylvania, d. aft. 1819.

  15. Betty L. Collier, E-Mail Betty , amateur genealogist researching John Lindsey  b. ?, d. circa 1823 Lauderdale County, Alabama, m. ?.  John Lindsey had a son, Jacob Lindsey who died in New Madrid County, Missouri in 1816.

  16. Elizabeth Cook, E-Mail Elizabeth, amateur genealogist researching John Lindsay, b. Apr. 3, 1860 Greenock, Scotland, d. 1903 Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, m. unknown.  Two sons, William and Robert Lindsay were born in New South Wales, Australia.  The known migration path for this lineage of Lindsays is Scotland to Australia.

  17. Heather Corey, E-Mail Heather , amateur genealogist,  researching  James Lindsay b. ? Scotland, d. ? , married Margaret Stephen of Scotland.  James and Margaret Lindsay were the parents of William Lindsay who married Mary MacGregor on Nov. 30,1888 in Edinburgh.  William and Mary Lindsay had seven children, one of which was William Lindsay b. 1891 Perth, Scotland, d. 1947 Redfield, Saskatchewan, Canada, married Betsy Stewart b. 1896 Perth, d. 1977 Canada.  William and Betsy Lindsay migrated from Scotland in 1910 to Canada, possible via Halifax and then to Ontario and to homestead at Redfield, Saskatchewan, Canada.  William had cousins who settled in St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada; two brothers who started a sawmill or lumberyard at St Catherines, and a sister who settled in Toronto Canada. If you know anything about any of these people please contact me.

  18. Ann Lindsey Crumpton, E-Mail Ann , amateur genealogist researching Joshua May Lindsey, b. c 1769 in NC and died Dec. 1841 in Tishomingo County, Mississippi.  Joshua May Lindsey is possibly the son of James Lindsey and Mary Carlton.  Joshua May Lindsey migrated from NC to Spartanburg Co., SC to Christian Co., KY to McNairy Co., TN to Tishomingo Co., MS. His known children are:  John H., Thomas Hampton, Caleb, and William Perry Lindsey.  Alfred Joshua Lindsey is perhaps his son also.  There was at last 1 daughter, per the 1800 census.

  19. Sue DeJournett, E-Mail Sue , amateur genealogist, researching Henry Lindsay, b. abt. 1804, who lived in Harrison County, West Virginia in 1830. His wife may have been Dorothy Thompson. Apparently, they had sons named McCann Lindsay and Thompson Lindsay, as well as other children. Thompson Lindsay had two marriages with several daughters but no sons. His daughter, Margaret J. Lindsay was born to his first wife in abt.1828.  Margaret J. Lindsay married Elijah Cottrill in Barbour Co., WV in 1863.  I would like to know where this Lindsay branch originated and to whom they are connected.

  20. Janice Deney, E-Mail Janice , amateur genealogist researching Archibald Lindsey, b. bef 1720 Northern Ireland, d. ?, married to Priscella Stephenson of Connecticut.  A son Stephen Lindsey, b. 22 March 1759 Connecticut, d. 14 August 1846 New York, married Sally McNitt of Massachusetts.  Archibald’s father is believed to be James Lindsey of Ireland.

  21. Diana Dobbins, E-Mail Diana , amateur genealogist researching James Lindsey b. 1799 Tennessee, d. ?, married Nancy Pate before 1825.  The migration path of James Lindsey was Sevier & Jefferson Counties, Tennessee to Coosa County, Alabama.  A son, John Lindsay (name change), migrated from Coosa County, Alabama to Jasper, Tennessee to Laclede County, Missouri.  This Lindsey lineage has been DNA tested and proven a part of DNA Group 4.

  22. Pat Doyle, E-Mail Pat , amateur genealogist researching John Lindsay born 1785 and Ann Carlisle born 1795 both born in County Down, Northern Ireland married in 1815 & had the following children, Jane, Sarah Ann, Robert, Maria, John all born in Ireland, possibly Mallow Parish Cork, then moved to North Beaver Lawrence County, Pennsylvania and had 5 more children Nancy, Susana, Charlotte, Mary and Elizabeth. Robert married in Ireland and two of his sons is known to have migrated to Queensland, Australia.

  23. Carrie Duffy, E-Mail Carrie , amateur genealogist researching John J. Linzey (changed to Lindsay) b. circa 1837 Alabama? or South Carolina?, d. circa 1908 Pike? or Montgomery? County, Alabama. John J. Linzey/Lindsay married Nancy Harper 07 Feb. 1855 in Jefferson County, Alabama.

  24. Vicki Duncan, E-Mail Vicki , amateur genealogist, researching Isaac Lindsay, b. ca 1779 Tennessee d. ?, m. Betsy ?.  Isaac and Betsy Lindsay had a son, Benjamin Franklin Lindsay (1779 TN-1838) who married Mary Amy Earl (Earle) in Raleigh, North Carolina.

  25. Briana S. Felch, E-Mail Briana , amateur genealogist researching David Lindsay b. 1695 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, d. ?, married Ruth Nyse.  Migration Path: Scotland?; Pennsylvania; Shenandoah Valley, VA; Greene Co, Tennessee; Madison Co, Alabama; Shelby Co, Alabama; Talladega Co, Alabama.

  26. Lindsey Finken, E-Mail Lindsey , amateur genealogist researching John Lindsay b. 1799 Northern Ireland, d. 1878, buried in Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Sigel, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.  John Lindsay married Mary (maiden name unknown).  Mary died in 1871 and is also buried in Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Sigel, Pennsylvania.  John & Mary migrated to the United States about 1850 and were the parents of John, John Joseph and Jane Lindsay.  Jane Lindsay married Robert Mackey in Northern Ireland ca 1840, and were the parents of James Mackey who came to Pennsylvania, USA with John and Mary Lindsay about 1850.  This Lindsay lineage has been DNA tested and proven a part of DNA Group 7.

  27. Todd Finley  E-Mail Todd  amateur genealogist researching John M. Lindsay, b. ? Hudson Valley, New York.  John M. Lindsay moved to Newfane, Niagara, New York area ca. 1820.  He married Eliza Taylor and had four known children:  Harmon Lindsay (b. 1835), Mary Lindsay (b. 1838), Charles Lindsay (b. 1839) and Horatio Lindsay (b. 1841). Purportedly of Scottish descent, but unknown how this Lindsay lineage came to New York state.

  28. Dan Ford, E-Mail Dan, amateur genealogist researching William Lindsey, b. ca 1808 Pennsylvania, d. 1870 Hocking Co, Ohio.   The known migration path for this oldest known Lindsey progenitor and his descendants was Pennsylvania to Bearfield, Perry, Ohio by 1840, then to Benton, Hocking, Ohio by 1850. William Linsey m. Lydia Beard on 10 Oct 1830 in Muskingum, Ohio.   They had 7 children:  Rachael, Jessie, Margaret, James, Sarah, Solomon, and William.  This Lindsey lineage has been DNA tested and is represented by DNA participant L0167 who is not currently classified in any one of the Project’s seventeen DNA Groupings.

  29. Mary Jo Freeman, E-mail Mary Jo , amateur genealogist, researching Nathan Lindsey, b. abt 1780 (probably VA), d. unknown, married to unknown.  Nathan lived in Ohio in 1803, Indiana in 1808 and Missouri in 1830.   There were three sons; William (1805), Lemuel (1810) and Unknown.  There were three daughters: Mary "Polly" Willard, Ann Greer and Sarah Cary, all married in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, but moved away. 

  30. DeeAnna Funderburg, E-Mail DeeAnna , amateur genealogist researching Maj. William Lindsay b. 1743 Mt. Pleasant, Fairfax County, VA., d. Sept. 15, 1793 Laurel Hill, Fairfax County, VA., married Ann CALVERT in 1766 Culpeper County VA.  William and Ann Calvert Lindsay were the parents of a son William Lindsay b. July 3, 1773 Prince William County and married Catherine Washington SANFORD, about 1804 VA. Their son John Randolph b. March 20, 1813 VA, d. about 1861 near Sherrill, AR, married Sarah A. PULLEN Dec.24, 1835 Pine Bluff, Jefferson Co; AR. Their daughter Eliza born about 1848 AR, married William Joel BAYLISS Oct.6, 1869 Pine Bluff, AR. She died at the age of 25 on June 22, 1875, Pine Bluff, AR.

  31. Kylee Furtak, E-Mail Kylee , amateur genealogist researching William Lindsay, b. ? d. ? Northern Ireland?, married Margaret Elizabeth Ewing.  William & Margaret had a son, George Lindsay, born 1766 Kilalla, County Mayo, Northern Ireland, died April 19 1841.  George married (1) Euphemia Gregg, (2) Jennie Magee.  George & Jennie Magee Lindsay had eight children, the youngest being a son Stuart Lindsay who immigrated to Australia on the ship Forfarshire circa 1848.  Stuart Lindsay was born 8 March 1919, County Mayo, Northern Ireland and died 26 November 1867 in Sandy Creek, Australia.  Stuart was married to Charlotte Brock in 1850 in Adelaide, South Australia.  Several of Stuart Lindsay’s siblings emigrated from  Northern Ireland to Wisconsin, USA.

  32. Venita Gallaspy, E-Mail Venita , amateur genealogist researching John Lindsay b. ca 1639 Lynn, New Jersey, d. ?, m. Mary Alley June 6, 1667 in Lynn, New Jersey.  John & Mary are believed to be the parents of James Lindsay b. ca 1700 Essex County, Virginia and married Sarah Daniel.

  33. Kim Garrett , E-Mail Kim , amateur genealogist researching my 5th great-grandmother, Margaret Lindsay b.? Northern Ireland d. ? Robeson County, NC?, married Gerard Brandon in Ireland and they had at least one son - Gerard Brandon b. ca 1750 in County Donegal or County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.  After the death of Margaret's husband, she and her son, Gerard, migrated to America shortly before the American Revolution, following Margaret's brother William, who had come to America several years earlier.  It is my understanding they landed in Charleston, SC.  By 1779 Gerard Brandon had migrated to Adams County, Mississippi, however, his mother remained in the Carolinas remarrying to a John Scott. Margaret and John Scott had a son by the name of John Scott. It is believed Margaret was buried in Robeson County, NC - year unknown - in a private cemetery on Scott property.

  34. Dave Giesbrecht, E-Mail Dave , amateur genealogist, researching Christopher Lindsay, b. 27 Mar 1827 Ireland (possibly Belgee, Hollywood), d. 8 Dec 1900 Moosomin, Saskatchewan, Canada, arrived in present-day Ontario about 1847, married Elizabeth Jane Smith (parents unknown) about 1848.  They had 8 children: Joseph, David, James (researcher's descendent), Robert, Madeline, Mary Ann, Joseph, and William. 

  35. Irene Good, E-Mail Irene , amateur genealogist, researching David Lindsay, b. 1801 Forfarshire, Scotland d. 1885 West Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada.  d in 1823 and they were the parents of ten children.  The migration route for David Lindsay was Forfarshire, Scotland to Dunlop, New Brunswick, Canada to Bathurst, Canada.

  36. Leslie Lindsay Granville, E-Mail Leslie , amateur genealogist researching John Lindsay b. September 29, 1774 Kirriemuir ?, Scotland, d. April 19, 1831 Montrose, Scotland, married Janet Blues/Blews September 29, 1799.  John Lindsay was the founder of John Lindsay & Son, Builders' Merchants (slaters), Montrose, Scotland.  The children of John and Janet Lindsay were William (b.1801), John Jr. (b.1805), Andrew (b.1804), Peter (b. 1806), Sands (sailor, no dates) and Robert (no dates).

  37. Evelyn Lindsey Grevelle, E-Mail Evelyn , amateur genealogist researching John Lindsey b. 1798 Georgia, d. 1870 Coffee County, Alabama.  Evelyn's great grandfather, Dennis Lindsey b. 4/19/1837 in Elba County, Alabama, d. 9/13/1908 in E. Brewton, AL, was the son of John Lindsey. 

  38. Helen Hahn, E-Mail Helen , amateur genealogist researching W. (William?) John Lindsay b. circa 1760 New Cumnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, came from Scotland to Canada circa 1800, d. 1822 Truro, (Brookevale) Nova Scotia, Canada.

  39. Kate Johnson,  E-Mail Kate , amateur genealogist researching Margaret Lindsay b. February 15, 1790 in Edinburgh? or Lanarkshire, Scotland?, d. June 28, 1852 Chinguacousy Township, Ontario, Canada, married John Stoddart on April 29, 1811 Edinburgh, Scotland, immigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1819.  According to her marriage record, Margaret Lindsay's father was James Lindsay, "labourer".  There is a family legend that Margaret Lindsay's parents were James Lindsay and Margaret Douglas and that Margaret Douglas was the daughter of Lord John Douglas.  This is not confirmed.   Kate Johnson's web site for viewing additional information on her family tree is  http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/j/o/h/Kate-Johnson/GENE2-0002.html 

  40. Joseph E. Johnston, E-Mail Joseph, amateur genealogist researching Janette Lindsay, b. Jul 1832, Scotland, d. 1 Nov 1900, Barron County, Wisconsin, probably Cedar Lakes Township.  Janette married James McIntyre/McIntire about 1851, Wisconsin.  First documented census is 1870, Sumner, Trempealeau, Wisconsin.  She is living with her husband, James McIntyre, with children: Jeanette, b. 1853, Wisconsin; James Jr., b. 1854, Wisconsin; Mary, b. 1861, Wisconsin; Claudia, b. 1863, Wisconsin. Living next door to Janette Lindsay McIntyre is a: William Lindsay, b. 1841, Scotland, wife, Clara, b. 1843, children: Gertrude, age 6; Clara, age 3, and Jennie, age abt 7 months.  William Lindsay (b. 1841) is thought to be a brother.  Janette and husband James McIntyre are found in Cedar Lakes, Barron, Wisconsin in 1880.  The 1900 Census, Cedar Lakes, Barron, Wisconsin shows Janette Lindsay McIntyre living with daughter, Mary McIntyre Johnston and shows an immigration date from Scotland of 1842. Janette Lindsay is my G G Grandmother.

  41. Bob Jordan, E-Mail Bob , amateur genealogist researching John Lindsey b. circa 1775 Rutherford County, North Carolina, d. 1837 Spencer County, Indiana.  This John Lindsey was possibly son of James Lindsey and grandson of William Lindsey of Brunswick County, VA.  The migration path of John Lindsey was Rutherford County, NC to Warren County, Kentucky to Grayson County, Kentucky to Spencer County, Indiana.  This Lindsay lineage has been DNA tested and proven a part of DNA Group 8.

  42. Phyllis Lindsey Jordan, E-Mail Phyllis, amateur genealogist researching Jessie Lindsay b.ca 1800, Paris, Kentucky, d. 1842, Daviess Co., Kentucky, m. Carr Riggs, Nelson Co., Kentucky in 1824.

  43. Paul Thomas Keenan, E-Mail Paul , amateur genealogist researching Ann Lindsay b. ca 1800 County Down Northern Ireland, d. ?, married John Keenan circa 1824.  Ann Lindsay Keenan's descendants now live in Scotland, England, Germany, Spain and the United States.

  44. Anne Lindsay Kerr, E-Mail Anne , amateur genealogist researching James Lindsay b. circa 1823 Monaghan County, Ireland, d. 1879 Largs, Ayrshire, Scotland.  His son, James Lindsay (Jr.), married Mary Ann Boyd and had ten children, all born in Largs, Scotland.  Descendants of James Lindsay migrated to the United States between the years 1911 and 1920.

  45. Penny Kidd, E-Mail Penny , amateur genealogist researching William Lindsay b. 1809 Channelkirk, Scotland, d. 1888, married Agnes Smith 17 May 1833 Edinburgh.  The descendants of William Lindsay, one James Lindsay, first migrated from Scotland to Australia Nov. 1887 on the SS Britannia and then to New Zealand in 1894.  William Lindsay, Solicitor, Perth Australia, Alexander Lindsay, James Lindsay who took over Wm Lindsay & Sons cooperage, Cannonmills, Edinburgh. 

  46. Eleanore S. Kilpatrick, E-Mail Eleanore , amateur genealogist researching Dr. William Lindsay b. 24 Dec. 1795 Lincoln County, NC, d. 7 May 1876 Preble County, Ohio, m. Cambridgeshire, England, married to Sarah Franks.  Their daughter Elizabeth was born in March, 1805 in Cambridgeshire and married John Wheatley in March 1822 in Cambridgeshire.  Elizabeth and John Wheatley had 5 children and immigrated to Australia with their children in about 1846.

Gail Lindsay Wheeler, E-mail Gail , amateur genealogist researching John Lindsay b. ca 1833 Groomsport, County Down, Ireland, died March 24, 1904 most likely in Wigtownshire, Scotland.  John Lindsay migrated from Ireland to Scotland and married Margaret Cochrane (d. Aug. 6, 1901) in Wigtownshire, Scotland on June 5, 1851.  The 10 children of this marriage, all of whom were born in Wigtownshire, were Agnes b.1852, Sophia b.1858, James, Margaret Jane, John b.1859, William b.1864, Mary b.1865, Samuel b.1866, Crawford b.1868, and Alexander b.1871.  Two of John's (b. ca 1833) grandchildren, John and William eventually migrated to Canada.  John Lindsay (b. ca 1833) also had a brother named James Lindsay who migrated to the United States.

December 14, 1885, d. November 27, 1974 at Kurri Kurri Australia, daughter of William Orr and Janet Low) June 2, 1911 at Torryburn, Scotland. Adam and Elizabeth Orr Lindsay were the parents of William Orr Lindsay (b. May 5,1913 in Torryburn, Scotland, Fife Scotland, d. March 27,1999 Kurri Kurri, NSW Australia) and one additional son, name unknown, b. December 4,1916, d. May 1918.  Adam (1887-1972) and Elizabeth Orr Lindsay with son William Orr Lindsay (1913 -1999) came to Australia from Scotland ca 1925. William Orr Lindsay married Olive Duffy in February 1952.
