The Lindsays of Rockingham County, NC

The Lindsays of Virginia and Rockingham County, NC has been documented on many occasions and in many places.  The account of Robert Lindsay (1774 VA - 1837 Fluvanna County, VA), who married Elizabeth Wren, and his descent from Opie Lindsay (1745-1815) and Margaret Lamkin provides much of the source material for this Lindsay lineage.


 

Since the advent of the International Lindsay Surname DNA Project in 2001, we have tested three individuals whose Y-chromosome DNA has provide the genetic foundation for the DNA Group 12.  Click on Page One for the text relating to DNA Group 12 and click on  Page Two for the DNA data related to DNA Group 12.

The participation of Lindsay DNA participant L0084 (see graphic above) introduced the contents of a family bible that has been handed down in his family since 1836.  This family bible was presented to John Mott Lindsay (1809-1901) by his father, Robert Lindsay (1774-1837) sometime between 1836 and the death of Robert Lindsay in 1837.  The bible is now in the possession of Lindsay DNA Project participant L0084.
